Re: Linux Mint 7 x64 RC1 Bug Thread

I've noticed a long delay in having a menu entry show up in your programs menu after you install something.

An example, I installed Handbrake but it wasn't until several minutes later before I got the menu entry under Sound & Video.
I've noticed this on the x86 version of Mint 7 but it seems even longer on the 64 bit version.

Another weird thing about the Mint menu is the scroll bar that you scroll to see your whole list of apps, sometimes it just jumps wildly up and down while trying to scroll it. Sometimes you don't even need to click on the scroller, just running your mouse up and down causes it to scroll.

Lastly, this has been happening for sometime now but I've always wondered why Firefox hangs when I try to close it? It was bad on Mint 6 and is only a little better on Mint 7 and it really doesn't matter at all what page I'm browsing when I close FF. I thought it might be a Flash thing but it does it even when there's no flash on the page.

I was under the impression that the latest evolution, available in Gloria has native support for exchange (or maybe just the .pst files), if I'm right, then removing the connector might solve the problem.

Just tried blanking two DVD RWs discs and both time the process stops quickly, saying it was successful and both time I'm unable to get the disc out of the computer.

I can't even force an eject because now both times my drive just vanishes from the system.

I'm not sure but I think something is borked, having to reboot to get a DVD out of the drive is no fun. I still haven't gotten Brasero to burn anything on the RC1.

On occasion Gnome Menu will hang and use 100% system resources, other times upon logging in I'll get no Gnome panel, I have to log back out and in for the panel to load.

I can't get gnome-do to auto start every time Iogin. I checked the box to autostart but every time I restart the box is unchecked and I have to run gnome-do manually.

There is a problem with right click. When you press the right mouse button right click menu seems. But when you release the button it selects first option from menu. This problem is not occuring always but it occurs usually. And this is a system wide problem. I thought that maybe my mouse have a problem. I have tested it on the same computer with another op.system. Problem is only with the mint. Problem starts with installation of mint.

Funny, I didn't encounter this issue when I was using Ubuntu Jaunty x64. I've installed htop from the repos and it was downloaded and set up successfully. With Mint Gloria x64rc1, however, I just found out that I can launch the app from a terminal window but clicking on the htop icon in the mint/administration seems to effect no response from the OS.

Installed last night and must say that I am impressed. Just one issue so far. It has to do with both pidgin and kopete (my preferred client). It seems that connecting to AIM and MSN work great on both but connecting to yahoo is intermittent. I am not talking about Kopetes annoying habit of disconnecting/reconnecting. I am talking about sitting and spinning at "connecting" on both client apps. I have tried telnet to the yahoo server on port 5050 and I hit it so it isn't a firewall issue. I have launched a windows VM (on the same system using NAT) and trillian connects fine.

kmrdeva: try it with the latest mintMenu 4.7.8, the changelog says something like fixes bug with terminalonly=true, e.g. htop

Disregard, this appears to be a problem on yahoos end.

Thanks for the tip, emorrp1. After the update, htop now launches fine from the mint menu. However, I've discovered that GCompris (the educational games and apps packages) doesn't launch no matter how many times I click on it, via the menu (I need to figure out how to execute it via cli to confirm it's the menu and not the app itself causing issues). I've disabled compiz but no joy, still.

BTW, how can I know what version of mintMenu I am running on my PC? Sorry for the stupid question, I'm new to Linux, somewhat.

As you'll see across this forum there are no stupid questions: Right-click --> About on the panel applet. You could try launching gcompris from the gnome menu applet, but if it doesn't work, I'd post a new thread about it in the support forum.

I'm testing Linux Mint 7 x64 RC1 on a Dell Precision M6300 laptop with 4GB RAM. The only bug that I have found so far is that the system reacts differently when selecting the "Quit" options from the Menu.

If I select "Quit" again from the exit menu, the system shuts down properly.

If I don't select any option from the exit menu (relying on the "system will shutdown in 60 seconds" feature), the system shuts down but does not power off the laptop.

This feature works just fine on the 32-bit version of Linux Mint 7 that I'm running on another Dell laptop.

BTW- Linux MInt is great!

I also have this problem, but it is nothing to do with Mint in general, this is an Ubuntu issue with Jaunty and its x64 edition. I'm trying to resolve this as well.

Hi.
I'm using Gloria 64 RC1 on quadcore phenom system with 3gb of memory and Ati Radeon HD 2600 pro with ati's closed driver.
I seem to have a massive memory leak: smplayer uses over 1.1gb of memory after wathcing only 20 minutes of an 1:42:37 movie (avi).
Edit:sorry for the spam , it was just libass, acting out. It only happens in x64 distros so I never came across it before.
Now I can really enjoy LM7, Thanks for your hard work.

Thanks for the 'get mintMenu version number' tip. By the way, I decided to run gcompris from the terminal, and I got the output below. I'll research this for a bit before I give up and go post in the support forum.

Code: Select all
gcompris &

$ exec_prefix NULL
XF86VidMode: Compiled with XF86VidMode.
If you have problems starting GCompris in fullscreen, try the -x option to disable XF86VidMode.

I found a posting in Ubuntu Forums on the gcompris launch error. I'll try the fix later tonight when I get home, after catching Transformers 2 in the cinema.. :D

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7149338&postcount=1

Code: Select all
The GCompris in the Jaunty repositories doesn't work. It's an old version with an unsatisfied dependency. Installing python-numeric will fix it.
