I have not kept up, sorry! Have you abandoned KDE? I only do KDE.

I don't think it's been abandoned, but at least this first version is gnome.

Is there a way to upgrade from beta 014 with updates (synaptic)?

If not then I know I should leave /home intact when reinstalling from the Live CD, but what about /usr and /var?

My hard drive is partitioned as follows:
/
/usr
/home
/var

Or should I just back-up my data and do a clean install? I don't have a lot on the system yet, so it wouldn't be too much trouble if it is a better solution than an update/upgrade.

Thanks!

Cassandra is some very fine work. You should be proud!

I too am curious about this one.

I noticed recently that some of my update sources in 014 are having issues (GPG keys are invalid), so it is tempting to just blast my root partition (of course keeping my home partition intact) and restart with the final version, but if there was a way that I can incorporate the latest changes without redoing everything again, that would be great.

BTW...before Bianca (v2.2), I was an avid SuSE user. While I still love SuSE's integrated control panel, I am enjoying the refreshing experience offered by Linux Mint and its Ubuntu-based foundation.

Hope to get more involved around here...my next step I think is to figure out a way to make Anjuta 2.x more easily available to everyone!

Is the kernel bug related to Savage S3 drivers fixed in the final release?
I have fixed it manually in the beta (which works perfectly by the way) so I 'm not sure if I need to dist-upgrade or not.

Many of you are full of praise for Cassandra, as I am. I would like to suggest that those who can afford to, should send a few dollars of gratitude to the Mint project to assist even greater product development.

This way Clem and the team will feel even more appreciated than the deserving words of praise coming their way at the moment. Extra money can get the hardware and facilities they need to keep producing what looks like becoming one of the top 5 distros.

Regards
John

(no, I am not connected to Clem in anyway....by paying a few bucks I can contribute something since I am not a developer...just a grateful user).

I second your motion John
Wishing won't do it, money will. :)
Suppose we had to buy the CD, would anybody be stingy about it? :)
Or suppose the Server couldn't be payed. He could refuse to offer his services.

If you had to buy the CD ? Well let's see... the daily stats for today indicate more or less 43,000 Cassandra downloads so far. If that translated in $1 per download it would mean the distribution could hire about 300 people like me to work on it... full time.

Of course it is also popular because it is free, let's not forget that.

it's nice to dream though :)

Dell selling Linux preinstalled on PCs

Wont install on my Inspiron E1505

Isn't Dell shipping this with Feisty preloaded on it?

Clem

Yes the are, even the Inspiron E1505 N is selling with Ubuntu on it.
It's only in the US and Home Office section. I would normally go through Small Business because of better Customer Service on your Warranty.

I wonder if they added a dell section to the sources.list and if Linux Mint could use it?

Clem,
I don't think there's anybody who can't afford to send a dollar :)
I believe the reason for people's indifference could be attributed to the fact that many of them don't have an easy way of sending their donation.
Not many have a Paypal account. There should be another way.

I am willing to pay for my downloaded CD, and I believe it's worth more than ten Dollars to me.

XBMC port for linux

Postby merlwiz79 on Thu May 31, 2007 3:46 pm

They are porting Xbox Media Center to Linux. http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/?title=Linux_port_project

I have been using it on my Xbox for some years and it's great.
This would be awesome to have for Linux Mint.
This is what it looks like on Ubuntu.

A suggestion.

Could there be a postal address (Box number?) where those of us who can't use, or don't like using, Paypal, could send a cheque (or even a Dollar note) as our donation. As Clem lives in Ireland, what about Euros?

A postal address seems to work well with other distros.

Congratulations on Cassandra. She's fantastic!

Cheers

I agree with this, i dont have paypal or credit cards, i would like to help by sending a small donation, so some sort of postal address/box number would be a help for as like Keith says those of us who dont use/like credit/debit paymensts etc

Loving Cassandra she is working flawlessly right now :D

Could you use GNOME Partition Editor and repartition it so you can save every thing when you install.
Or get the Cassandra sources.list and replace yours and upgrade that way.(Not Sure it will work.)

Another issue is that it is very vague. For example, is sending just one dollar an insult??
Just my opinion but asking for dontations nakes no sense unless you suggest an amount. eg. students $2 home users $x .... fanatics $10 ...i am not sure wat the schedule but looking at what people feel happy with in dontations now would give an idea. It is not a price since it is optional and a guide only ...people can donate more or less and still select the same catagory (student / home user etc) and the status selected could reflect a status on the forum also.

I am not using mint currently and would wait for the next kde version but i don believe in projects like mint being supported to be viable. I have looked considered donations to distributions in the past but but discouraged by having no idea what level of donation is sought

Honestly, I don't have much extra floating around moneywise. I'm only a poor old topixqui.

But, I am seeding the torrent.

Does that count for anything? LOL
