Congrats Boo!

Great work for this RC 1 . I hope i can stay with this RC installed and just going on upgrading the packages.
It serves me good.

Well, i changed the default AirMint default wallpaper. It reminds me of Mac , Win XP look (style) and have a bit of that Fedora soft-blue smell.

I downloaded FreshMint in blue and make it my default wallpaper. My dress for "Mint KDE CE 8 "helena" :D
I know the wallpaper doesn't contain the new KDE logo but nobody asked Zwopper to insert the new one to the blue Fresh Air wallpaper.
The actual wallpaper is very nice and well done and i will use it as a good option. :D

see image below.

Thanks go too to exploder, Husse , Clem and Kendall :)

One big beautiful OS! Nice job all around. I'm running it on an older single core (32 bit) HP that I upgraded to 1.0 GB of memory along with installing an Nvidia GeForce 6200 w/256 MB RAM and the RC1 makes it brand new again. If this keeps up I won't have to buy another computer for the next 3 years. :D

Just to let you know, there's a bit of a typo on the announcement of RC1 on the Main Site under "Downloads/Community Editions". The announcement states; KDE Community Edition Version: Linux Mint 8 "Gloria" KDE RC1.

Oops :P

I'm running Mint 8 KDE RC1 live at the moment. It works nice. :D BT-mouse, WLAN, and network printer configuration, all works perfect. The only problem is that I can't close the "Tucan Manager" window I happened to open by mistake....? :?
By the way, there is no battery status indicator by default in the panel - which Gnome has by default. (This is a Asus Aspire One notebook)

Glad you're not the only one who can't close the Tucan Manager, doesn't close for me either. You should post this on the "Linux Mint 8 KDE RC1 Bug topic" thread so that they know about it.

Hi Everybody on the Forum,
My congratulations to the Mint and KDE teams on the HELENA KDE RC1!!!

I am more of an amateur, playing with linux for the last 11 years on my PCs. At first I switched between Suse and Mandriva at every new release - these were the distros that a homegrown IT specialist could master to a degree where he could install what he wanted on his PC. But things change, Mandriva went to commercial for me and Suse is an example of a large commercial takeover taking its toll on the otherwise fine product - the most talented and dedicated people leave, there is no clear direction any more and eventually the whale lands hopelessly on the beach.

I switched to MINT because it is beautiful, well thought out and engineered with the end user in mind - an oridinary end user that did not take programming courses, did not code important parts of the linux kernel but who is willing to learn a bit :D

The Helena KDE RC1 installed like a charm on my new Thinkpad R500 - no need for any tweaking or tune up.

Once againg - thank you for your work and thoughtfullness! Please keep it up Clem!

Cheers,

jg2

jg2: I have had a few problems with my Thinkpad T500. I don't know how similar it is to your R500 but I would guess somewhat. When you boot, does it indicate the kernel is 'pae'. Mine does not and it does not recognise all of my memory. Also, have you tried Amorok? I don't get any sound when trying to play a CD. Others have described Amorok problems.
