LinuxMint is a big big "WOW"!

After a long journey of distro-hopping, i finally found one i can call "Home". this distro(Daryna) so simple (linke ubuntu) but with much more refined artwork which is so soothing to the eyes. since i won't have internet connection until next year, planning to enable my VGA didn't even cross my mind after installation which was always my priority after installation of other distros. the themes and icons...they're just so cool and so beautiful. it plays mp3s and videos right out of the box which is all i need. since it is gnome-based, it goes well with my likings because of its simplicity (btw, i hated gnome before i tried Daryna). it's also well-organized and well-trimmed compared to kubuntu and PCLinuxOS (though they are kde-based). i didn't use the default Daryna panel arrangement coz i prefer the one ubuntu has. it's much more organized. what else? it also detects all the stuffs connected to my PC right away like ubuntu did. it's definitely a "WOW" to me. to the pipz who develop this distro...keep it UP! this is a very good distro!

All distros have their own share of bugs, and Daryna is not exempted. When i ran Amarok and clicked the visualizations, the system blacked out and brought me back to the log-in screen. it's a very minor problem though since it plays mp3 very well. another thing is the "user and groups" function doesn't work really well. if you only have one account which is the default, you'll have no problem. but if you try to add a user and then log out to log-in back as a guest, it won't recognize the account. if you log-in as a default after you have been denied as a guest user, the screen sort of freezes. you will have to restart your pc to put things back to normal...

Welcome to Mint Sirc
and thank you
You don't happen to have ccsm enabled do you?
Compiz Configuration and Settings Manager
It's known to have side effects like you describe at the end of your post.
If so either uninstall it or follow the advice in here

(and I still can't make sense of the initial post in there :))

LinuxMint stopped my distro hopping too! I still play around with other distro's on another hard drive but nothing else comes close to LinuxMint. I am spoiled by the Mint menu and the single panel. Thanks to the Mint menu I do not need a single icon on my desktop! The software portal makes things quick and easy. I can have a real root account in a couple of mouse clicks thanks to the mint assistant! I like having a choice!

The artwork is second to none! In my opinion other distro's have a log way to go to catch up with Mint in artwork and consistency. The community gets involved so there is a very large selection in the way of art. The community is helpful and pleasant.

The best thing of all about LinuxMint is that the Lead Developer actively participates in the forum. You can actually voice concerns or ideas and know that someone at least looked at them. LinuxMint and PCLinux are the best examples of good communication on the planet. Any Developer that goes the extra mile like this deserves respect.

Believe it or not, I have LinuxMint 4.0 installed and as far as I can tell it is bug free. Do you have all of the updates installed?

Like sirc, I was not a big gnome fan. But even after a dabble in the KDE 4.0 distro, I am still in love with the gnome release. It is exceptional. Have a demo machine setup in the shop with it running. http://www.djscomputers.com.au

I have a feeling that we will soon sell a new PC with Mint preinstalled. That would be a blast!
