Splash Screen Problems/ Shutdown problem

Postby blues-guy on Mon Feb 18, 2008 9:51 pm

OK, now that I've got this distro working prety well I need to sort out some of the niggles.

KSpash is set by default to 1920 x 1440. I edited /usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/kubuntu/Theme.rc and changed it to default to 1680 x 1050 ( my widescreen monitor's native resolution).

Made no difference. ksplash seems to be over-ridden by grub's splash screen, which I also changed by editing /boot/grub/menu.lst and edited it to include vga=794 ( ie 1280x1024) in the "defoptions = quiet splash vga=794" line.

The grub screen is all displayed now, though naturally a little stretched horizontally.

The ksplash however is still larger tha the monitor screen ( I can move it up/down/sideways) with the mouse.

the KMenu/logout/shutdown still hangs the system. I changed the Login Mangager "shutdown" from the "poweroff" to the "shutdown" script but it still hangs, wheras if I KMenu/Logout/logout THEN Shutdown, everything works and the PC shuts down properly.

ATI Proprietary drivers DO NOT WORK, strange characters appear on the screen, and also CANNOT use KVIRC , the screen constantly flashes and flickerrrs and nothing can be don about it, i tore the program apart and it is a linux mint issue, as this doe not happen in kubuntu gutsy which i had to reinstall in order to be able to use my programs.
linux mint has great potential i wish support was more readily available.

there is also Font issues Dotum fonts and others are missing and get errors CID erros when installing msttcorefonts.
No CIDSupplement specified for Dotum-Regular, defaulting to 0.
No CIDSupplement specified for KochiGothic-Regular-JaH, defaulting to 0.
No CIDSupplement specified for Batang-Regular, defaulting to 0.

Couldn't get cwd: No such file or directory

i really want to use linux min KDE but i cannot until these issues are fixed, ive been keeping my eyes on this forum for a few dayshoping to find solutions but i have yet to do so.

WHERE TO SUBMIT BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Postby Bantam on Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:14 pm

Where do BUG reports go for this beta?
and i cant understand how there is little or no support for this product, ive been posting msgs with problems etc, and i got 1 reply , whisch was incorrect,
i really feel the support for this product needs to be stepped up quite a alot!
im experiencing Video issues and i cannot get any help for it .
it appears to be DRIVER issues, i can ONLY get the restricted drivers to work halfways decent, proprietary drivers DO NOT work contrary to what someone replied to me, they ARE NOT the same!!!!!!
they give me MAJOR isues, with the screen flickering, mouse behavior.
the restricted drivers give similiar issues but i can deal with them (FOR NOW) im using dual monitors same setup i had in linux mint gnome , and had NO issues whatsoever!!!1
i would really like to give my input for whomever is responsible for fixing bugs and such, i just wish i knew where to go, and if its going to be read and or considered, i really like linux min alot, it has GREAT potential, and from a newbies point of view it is an excellent OS to work with, once the minor bugs get worked out.

My system is an HP DC7700 duo core 2 1.8GHZ
Probelm: sound does not run on any games I installed like: PPRACER and SuperTux. All my system sounds work fine.

I did try to execute alsaconf from cosole as root but it says no such command exists.

What is the problem? Any solutions.

Hi all.
It has been a long time since I was here.
Have been using Linspire for years and it looks like they are going the way of the Dodo bird.
I am very partial to the KDE desktop and look forward to all the Mint KDE releases.
I have got to say that the KDE 4.0 Beta 2 is very VERY nice. I have been running in for a few weeks now and it is IMHO a much better distro than Linspire is now, and might ever hope to be in the future.
Keep up the excellent work and I look forward to the 4.0 GR.
Many thanks Freedom.

I'm just wondering if a
Mint Daryna KDE Final Version
will see the light of day...? Is anything planned, is Beta 044 regarded as good enough?

... it will, it will... if I've got it right, Boo has the final version "ready", it is now being tested by Exploder and after him, Clem has to give his final approval - and then we'll have it!
Someday...
I don't have a solution, but I do admire the problem.

well tell Boo, Exploder & Clem
to check out the ATI driver issues i got 1st.
as of now i cannot use mint, i cannot use the proprietary ATI drivers as it displays garbled characters on the screen, and the restricted drivers do not work either, now this is a dual monitor system, and the settings i'm using are the EXACT settings i used in Kubuntu gutsy, everything works PERFECT in kubuntu.
the restricted drivers give me mouse problems, for instance if i am working on my left monitor and then goto my right side monitor the mouse pointer has the "resize" pointer (the one that appears when you are resizing a window) which appears for no reason, i have to go back to the left monitor and click the screen then go to the right monitor, ALSO when i try to use my mouse to copy & paste, the selection pointer does not appear and the pointer is very erratic.
it goes away if i install the proprietary drivers, but then i have the funny characters on my screen.
i have an ati radeon x600 video card. and i have a intel pentium 4 with 3gb or ram

OOps more delays...
I am having language problems at install (unless you want english).
the installer installs the gnome language pack instead of the KDE one...
eg I choose french and it installs language-pack-gnome-fr instead of language-pack-kde-fr.
the work around is to install the kde lang pack after install

apt install language-pack-kde-fr

a bit messy though.

back to searching

Ati or Nvidia driver problems are out of our scope to fix.
These problems must be fixed by Ati and Nvidia.
I just use envy to install my nvidia driver, and I have never had a problem.
but that could be because I use nvidia cards, and why also.

Latest NVidia driver works fine for me with WideScreen monitor.

Shutdown problem has rectified itself after recent updates.

Sound stops working after running 1 flash-based ( ie youtube) video - next video or anything else, including Amarok, has no sound until I log out and in again.

Boo,
Thank you for all of your work.
Also, congratulations on keeping your cool and remaining focused despite one person's comments above. Not all of us have such a sense of entitlement to other people's work.
I am very grateful for your time and effort on this release.
