MGSE and Maya

I know that Clem has announced that MGSE will not be supported any longer. It's not included in the RC of Maya.
I tried installing it via ppa, but since Maya is based on Gnome 3.4 instead of 3.2 that didn't work either.
Is there any way to get MGSE without staying on Lisa forever? MGSE was by far my favorite desktop environment, and I'd like to be able to run it in Maya.
Thanks in advance, and if I'm mistaken about anything in this post feel free to flame me ;)

mgse is basically gnome-shell with a set of custom extensions, so basically what you have to do in maya is install gnome-shell over cinnamon, head to https://extensions.gnome.org/# and select the extensions that you wish (or better replicate the mgse layout)
the set of extensions used in mint12 are:
  • mgse-alttab
  • mgse-bottompanel
  • mgse-mediaplayer
  • mgse-menu
  • mgse-noa11y
  • mgse-notifications
  • mgse-shutdownmenu
  • mgse-smartoverview
  • mgse-userthemes
  • mgse-windowlist
  • mgse-xrandr
just look which ones are ported to 3.4 and build your shell according to your needs :D

Thanks zerozero! I'll look through there and see what I can find. Initial search of MGSE doesn't bring up much of anything, but if I can replicate the MGSE look I'll post the extensions I used for anyone else who stumbles upon this thread.

I, for one, would be quite interested in whatever extensions, cinnamon applets, and system tweaks you perform to make Maya/Cinnamon look/act like Lisa/MGSE. I had suggested, early on, that for consistency's sake (to provide a fairly benign 'upgrade process' for the casual end-user) that there should be a theme, or collection of tweaks, etc to Cinnamon to replicate (as closely as possible) the Lisa/MGSE look and feel. Going from Mint 11 -> Mint 12 was a *huge* jump... and one release later, we're doing it again. I understand the desire to "move forward", etc... but some consideration should be given to providing the long-term Mint users with a relatively consistent interface as they progress through later revisions and releases (and, in fact, this very line of thinking is likely the genesis of the MATE desktop environment!!).

anyway.. enough rant. :) Please do share anything you find out, and maybe we (perhaps just you & i, or maybe 'we as a community') can provide a smoother transition to the hordes of LM12->LM13 upgrading users with limited linux/computer experience. :)

I also can't move to Maya without MGSE. I installed Mint 13 to VirtualBox and tried to set up Cinnamon to look like MGSE, then tried to make gnome-shell to look like MGSE - no luck.
What about downgading to gnome-shell 3.2 and installing MSGE, did anybody tried?

Most of the MGSE extensions or similar can be found on https://extensions.gnome.org/ or via http://www.webupd8.org/search/label/gno ... results=10

MGSe extensions don't work in Gnome 3.4. I'll try to fix some of this extension to work in Gnome Shell 3.4, because I making some changes for myself in Linux Deepin 12.06

Not 'Maya" but my LMDE tracking SID install with Gnome 3.4 shell.
(You can do the same with Maya)
I have it very similar to Cinnamon/MGSE with these extenstions:

Extensions Used
AXE (Mint menu clone)
Hot-Corn-Dog
Favorites
Move clock
Alternative Status Menu
Remove User name
Remove Accessibility
Window List
Weather (from Webupd8-ppa .deb)
