Unwanted paths

Mint 12. 32 bit. Ubuntu flavour.

Being unhappy with the new default "touchscreen" layout, I selected the Classic login from the login screen. This is not the MATE one.

I then did a little exploring and minor random tweaking.

Overall, I am reasonably happy with the result, with a few exceptions.

I seem to have done something which causes desktop files to have their full path displayed under the icon, instead of their name only.

How do I turn this off?
