Where's the LXDE/Fluxbox desktops for version 13?

Hi,
I am new to Mint and this forum, so be nice.
I see by doing a Google search there was an LXDE desktop available for version 12, is there any plans for an LXDE destkop for version 13? I also see there used to be a Fluxbox version as well, only it was available for version 9  This would be better still for I am against bloat (both software bloat and feature bloat) and like fast, snappy-acting operating systems rather than bling, bloat and slow booting PC's.

Thank you

There is not. From Linux Mint 13 the developers have decided to support 4 desktops environments, the ones most popular with its users. That unfortunately for you doesn't include LXDE or Fluxbox. The 4 supported desktop environments are Cinnamon (based on Gnome 3), MATE (fork of Gnome 2), KDE and Xfce. You can see the results of the poll here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 3&t=100787

Of course, you can add LXDE to an installation of Linux Mint.

That's precisely what I've done, Punchy71. I've put LXDE on top of Mint 13 Cinnamon and I couldn't wish for a better desktop!

Xfce base may be a better fit to put LXDE on the power manager and other thing (including less GTK3 stuff) won't need to be changed. Apps used are pretty much standardized in the Mint flavours now (barring KDE version  )

Or you could start from "scratch" with an Ubuntu mini.iso, change your sources.list and preferences to Mint and then add LXDE on top o that. Then you get a very light LXDE-only system that you can configure after your own taste.

It is a bit more work, but it might be worth it if the end result is an OS that is customized (and also quite mintifyed) just the way you want it. And I have to say that it seems that it was a lot less complicated than I thought it would be.

Squeezy made a post about how he did this to create his own XFCE here, and I wrote a bit about my attempt at setting up the LXDE version here.

I'm still working on customization of my OS (on vacations, so I don't see my computer as often as I want to) but so far I'm very happy with my setup.

I have experimented with putting LXDE on all the mint releases and Xubuntu 12.04. The snappiest and most stable was on LMDE (http://lxlinux.com/debian.html), with Xubuntu (http://lxlinux.com/xubuntu.html) a close second. Mint Mate-Cinnamon and Mint XFCE were sluggish compared to these two.

I found the same thing, LMDE with LXDE is very fast. In fact, LMDE XFCE is very close to Mint 12 LXDE.
