Hello.

LXDE is very good DE - it's not so slowly as Mate or Cinnamon.

For is important normal work with several displays - linux mint display manager is very useful, in Lubuntu impossible to work normally with notebook and external monitor in one time.

When can appear LXDE edition Linux Mint distribution?

Linux Mint 16 will only feature with Cinnamon, KDE, MATE, and Xfce. If you want LXDE you can of course install that. LXDE is popular with a smaller group of Linux Mint users and you may understand that dropping one of the more popular Linux Mint editions so the developers have time to work on a LXDE edition of Linux Mint is something the developers can hardly justify to its users. Previously the LXDE edition had its own developer (volunteer), so the LXDE edition might still happen if somebody steps up and volunteers their time to build a LXDE edition that is in line with the Linux Mint vision.

I'd recommend instead you load LXDE on top of the Xfce edition, as that will be much easier to strip down (all the xfce4 and xfwm4 packages). The Xfce edition uses Xfwm4.

I guess you can bettter install Lxde on a Xfce installation, they have more in common then Cinnamon and lxde
There is an unofficial mint 13 Lxde http://www.linuxmint.pl/lista-artykuow/1-latest-news/316-unofficial-linux-mint-13-lxde-released.html

I've put lxde on maya 13 xfce. Then I remove all xfce files. It works faster than before, but some applications have changed their original icon. Now they have a gear wheel.
How can I return to their original icon? Which components do I need to reinstall to do it?

Thanks

This topic was about Linux Mint 16, not Linux Mint 13. I'd tested removing Xfce packages from Linux Mint 16 Xfce after installing LXDE packages, and that worked fine. Having a look at it again on Linux Mint 16 Xfce, I see that indeed LXDE's menu is using a different icon theme (with two applications that I could see getting a gearwheel icon). I have no idea how to make it use the same icon theme as Xfce's menu. Going to Preferences > Customize Look and Feel and setting the Icon Theme there back to Mint-X does make the file manager use the same icons as on Xfce, but it doesn't change the icons used in the menu. I don't know enough about LXDE, whether you can even change the menu's icon theme or how :|

I don't know if it is sensible to completely replace an xfce-desktop with an lxde one in Linux Mint 16. I think that there is a big change that you will thrash your Linux Mint installation when you replace xfce with lxde. Some files, folders and configuration data of xfce might remain after replacing xfce with lxde, interfering with the newly installed lxde.

What if the developers could work on an LXDE edition after completing work on the other editions? That way, they don't have to drop the other editions.

The world doesn't stop after finishing one release; then work starts on the next release. It's a repeating cycle. You should step up and volunteer your time to maintain a LXDE edition (a few hundred hours per year will do, though for the first release you do--with the learning curve--you will likely need a lot more). That is the only way another edition doesn't have to be dropped--people getting involved and committing time to what they care about

I had used LXDE together with LM 15 Mate. LXDE is very fast but at least in my opinion LXDE edition is not needed. LXDE works just fine together with any Mint edition.

LXDE users do not attack me please but separate edition is not needed. I even think about only for 2 Mint editions for faster developing speed - Mate and Cinnamon.

sudo apt-get install lxde works well. and no bloat. tried it out the other day. very light:)

And I agree with above. Lxde edition probably not needed.

And when I install the Lxde-desktop, will the xFce-desktop be removed completely?

Why would it do that. How would you then be able to have multiple desktop environments installed? In any case, if you need to remove Xfce that is trivially easy to do. Just remove all the xfc4-something packages.
