My T Tecra M1 laptop chokes on windows, I started on Mint10 and it was good.
When I encounter problems I couldn't get trouh, I decidet to install Mint 9 fluxbox (directly over the crushed one).

>No accsess to windows partition from the file browser.
I installed gedit tried to open file and there was the partiton. I installed nautilus and it was now accessable, it was good.(besides litle problems with themes and other stuff I don't bother)

>few hours later and without a certain reason all system elements on the screen are now 50% dimmed - (no problem on videos or boot screens).

It is good on evenings, can I get some control over it somehow?
("help, please, I am new to it ect,ect.")


I opened media the Multimedia System Selector and tested different options.

if I set video output - No Xv, movies are dark.
If it's set video output to - X11/XShm/Xv, output is bright,


I tried everything (as for the newbe)

xorg.conf
/ not guilty, with or without similar effect

sudo echo 8 >/proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness
sudo echo 100 >/proc/acpi/video/toshiba/VGA/LCD/brightness
/and variations for 3 different folders - no difference

sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=ff
/no effect

I installed 10 different packages.

I want to fix it without re-instaliation but I can't loose another day. Any tips?

I can not change it and it takes too much of me. Reinstall.

SOLUTION:

In the GRUB. Add a default resolution and palete to the line after kernel path using thishttp://www.g-loaded.eu/2005/09/30/chang ... esolution/.
