Linux mint 11 Fluxbox ?

Hi,
Currently, I am using Linux mint 9 fluxbox(with tint2). It is fast and good for old computers like the computer I use.
My question is : Is Linux mint 11 fluxbox planned?
I tried LXDE edition before but it was bad, because it doesn't keep configuration like monitor setting ,, etc.
Linux mint 9 has old packages and I can't upgrade them like monodevelop and gambas.

Quoted from the Linux Mint Blog dated 6 April 2011 by Clem:

"3. Are other editions going to switch to Debian?

Fluxbox will switch to Debian but remain minimalist in its default selection.

No decisions were made about LXDE and KDE yet, though switching them to Debian Testing would bring significant advantages to both the project and the users."

Only Clem can say for sure, but it sounds like rather than Mint 11 Fluxbox, we will have Linux Mint Fluxbox, based on Debian.

When it will be released ?
I prefer to come with tint2 panel instaed of fluxbox default panel
because it sucks
but tint2 is more beautiful, like mint fluxbox9
I tried lmde 201104 xfce but it was very slow
I hope to see fluxbox edition soon :D

I really don't see LMDX as being slow, but I'm also interested in an LMDE Fluxbox edition.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t count on any Fluxbox release coming soon. It appears that there are not enough of us Fluxbox users for Mint to mess with anymore. I just saw on Distrowatch that Kendall has released another Peppermint update. So he is too busy with doing his own thing there. Nothing wrong with him doing his own thing at all. More power to him! But its not Mint Fluxbox. And before others suggest that we install another version and then install fluxbox on top of it, I will just saw that I have done that before and it is not the same. So anyway I have basically moved on with AntiX which is nice.

Mint 9 Fluxbox is an LTS version, it has another 2 years of support. You can see the reason of the delay here:

AntiX is faster than Mint and also a good distro.

The problem is not in linux mint , but it is in ubuntu 10.04 ,for example it can not identify my DVDs , but in ubuntu 10.10 it can.
I think since it will be based on debian testing , it will be better

I guess Kendall is the maintainer for LXDE also. Once again Fluxbox takes a back seat! http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/74

You have to understand that LXDE has more users than Fluxbox and that there are problems to overcome: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 20#p416020

You can upgrade the kernel of Mint 9 to Mint 11's one by adding this to the Software Sources program (the Other Sources tab; the program is somewhere in the menu):

Code: Select all

ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa
Now you will get an update to the 2.6.38 which is Mint 11's kernel. It may solve your DVD problem.

I understand what the issues are and us Fluxbox users are at the bottom of the list if it even on the list at all. I also understand that if it ever is released the talk was that it would be based off of Debian instead of Ubuntu.
So the hold up is a custom Mint Menu? Stick the regular fluxbox menu in it and be done with it. Or talk to the AntiX people about the menu setup that they use. There are very few good Fluxbox based distros out there and Mint is one of the best.
I hate to see this being put on the back burner because of some silly custom menu.

I just tested the new Salix Fluxbox and as AntiX is great, fast and light.

I think the next LXDE is going to be based on Ubuntu (I could be wrong). The Fluxbox users could build a thread to help each other install Fluxbox on top of that and make a nice Mint Fluxbox CE thread/howto.
