First off, I'm very happy with how Mint has turned out so far, it is very close to perfect for me.
One thing that I felt was missing, or a bit on the "cheap" side, was the way searching for debs in mintInstall worked - displaying only the console output from Aptitude - so I reworked it to display the results in a list view, and fill in the name of the package in the search entry when double clicking a package in the list.
It's not localized, so will need that work done to it by someone who knows how, but I hope it gets accepted anyway
