Autoback 1.2.0 - August 22, 2009

Postby Acid_1 on Mon Mar 23, 2009 7:07 pm

This is a backup application. It's very simple, and runs in the background. It's purpose is to backup your files, such as music, documents, and application settings. It's licensed under GPL2.

-- Written in python
-- Backup files to any partition/drive
-- Just run autoback-config the first time you want to use it
-- Extract the zip and run the .deb

Changelog:

1.2.0:
autoback_1.2.0_no-arch.7z
MD5Sum:
ad3b15cfc7297e007dc542088ba66c42
(2.59 KiB) Downloaded 120 times
Added a "smart" removal of old directories. Needs work but it's better than before.
Again, make sure you run autoback-config before you run it the first time.
It's really worth using over 1.0.1. It's far less likely to go awry on you.

Changes:
Easier for user to config (Labeled better)
Easier for humans to read code (Better variable names than 10 cmdstringX)

1.0.1:
abzip1.0.1.zip
Now uses nano instead of gedit.
(2.45 KiB) Downloaded 138 times
Uses nano instead of gedit for autoback-config

To-Do:

Have a PID
A GUI
Restoration feature
Have option to compress data when backing up - 1.3.0

Is this a program you have written?

I suppose I should have mentioned that. Yes, it is a program I have written. It is completely CLI though.

I suppose I could change that. I hard coded the command to go "gedit /usr/lib/autoback/autoback.py" so it wouldn't workl with kedit or anything. I'll re-release with vim/nano/vi or something along those lines. I wasn't thinking lol.

You might want to also check out persy: http://github.com/kinkerl/persy/tree/master (also available from my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~emorrp1/+archive/ppa ) It uses git, so as well as incremental compressed backups, it can also sync across multiple desktop machines. Of course it could be that these two applications serve similar, but different purposes, that is the beauty of Free software! (although you didn't mention what licence your autoback is)
If you have a question that has been answered and solved, then please edit your original post and put a [SOLVED] at the end of your subject header
Hint - use a google search including the search term site:forums.linuxmint.com

Haha. In the post I forgot. Oops  But in the autoback-config it say it's under GPLv2.
