Gnome Templates for right click

Postby Acid_1 on Sat May 08, 2010 10:10 pm

I was noticing on Ubuntu 10.04 that there is no right click>Create Document

So I wrote a quick script with some blank templates that it installs. If Mint comes with some already sorry, if not, I hope you enjoy this.

Save this to your desktop, and open a terminal. So....

Code: Select all
tar -zxvf Desktop/ts.tar.gz && cd Template\ Script && sudo chmod +x install.sh && ./install.sh

And that should install everything for you. :)

Now you can just right-click and create empty document templates such as

Media>GIMP Image

Office>Database Document
Office>Presentation Document
Office>Spreadsheet Document
Office>Writer Document

Programming>ASP
Programming>C
Programming>C#
Programming>C++
Programming>Java

and for the last one a screenshot:

Thank you Acid_1 but for creating templates, and not just in Gnome, there is no need for an install script. You must just have or create, if not already there, a folder named Templates in your /home. Then inside it, you can put the templates, i.e. the files, what you want e.g. OOo-Presentation.odp, OOo-Spreadsheet.ods, OOo-Text.odt, Text

People can do that simply "by hand". :D

EDIT: I forgot. If you want all users you add to your system have your configuration, here the templates, go as root to the /etc/skel folder and create the Templates folder and the templates inside it there. Here you can create other things/configurations also if you want, e.g. folders like Documents, Downloads or others... This is not valid only with Ubuntu/Debian distros :wink:

Lol thanks. I just thought for Ubuntu/Mint users who didn't want to do anything this was easy.

On a side note, I didn't know that you could make templates that easily until the other day, and I've been using Linux since 2005... Maybe the distro should come with some default templates? Just a thought.
