Marvell ethernet driver not working

I have a Marvell ethernet device, model 88E8042 and am running 12 with GNOME classic.

The driver I believe to be the correct one for this card is the sk98lin.

Recently, I noticed that the proprietary drivers GUI had a Marvell Yukon driver option (I'd not noticed it before so don't know how it got there, updates?)

I've tried activating it but it just says downloading and installing forever and a day. Nothing happens.

I then went to the package manage and found sk98lin, and installed that.But still nothing. I'm still left with the network list saying wired network disconnected when plugged in.

I may be missing something small I don't know...
