Mint 12 64BIT: internet access is too slow RTL8101E/RTL8102E

Postby msmafra on Fri May 25, 2012 2:53 pm

Hi!
I'm using Mint for sometime, I preffer it over Ubuntu. Every update I format and Install the new version. Now I using on my new laptop a MSI CR-420MX (MS-1454), and I felt that using internet is very slow either using Ethernet or Wireless. I saw that that some people is having some troubles with some ralink and realtek cards and changing the driver solves the problems. Is that my case?
Wireless also have the weird behavior where it sometimes it ask twice for the password with two different dialogs: one with the new Gnome 3 interface and the orther with Gnome 2 problably MATE.

My note also has bluetooth but is not detecting, but that I have to check with the warranty.

[Edit]
$ inxi -N
Network: Card-1 Ralink RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe driver rt2800pci
Card-2 Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller driver r8169

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

RTL8101E/8102E is the wired connection. And this is not the Realtek one that can switch to r8168 driver for improved performance - for wired you're basically stuck with the driver you're already using.
Please run inxi -N, it'll also show the wifi chip.
