Establishing a VPN client connection

Hi viewers,

My first post here. I'm looking to make the switch from Windows 7 to Linux Mint KDE as my preferred OS.
With Win 7, I set up the connection whereby it asks me for just the VPN server address, along with a username and password, and I can get connected.
I asked the admins last week if there were any specific settings I need to be wary of. I was just told the vpn server uses PPTP.
I'm trying to configure a VPN client with Mint, but it's failing to connect.
Can someone advise what client I should use, and where I would set just the vpn server name, along with username and password?
