PAP authentication succeeds, but no internet

I have just installed Mint 14 onto my Acer Aspire 7750ZG. I have set up a wired DSL modem connection by using pppoeconf. Although plog seems to imply that everything is fine, I cannot ping any address. Note that Windows 7 connects without any problems.

I am using the wicd network manager. The only noticeable glitch on this end is that it takes very long to obtain an IP address.

So, what could go wrong here? Thanks!

Hi mgoldenbe,

You might need to provide a bit more information, or it's looking more complicated than need be.

Most of the time, there will be a network manager (not WICD, although this could be conflicting with a native network manager).

I just set up a wired connection, as I have a bit of an elaborate setup (hence multiple network adapters), with a DHCP server leasing addresses on a combination of wired and wireless / DHCP and static addresses (there is a reason for that).

You say it's a wired DSL, but is that going from the modem to the outside world, or are you hard wired from the computers to the modem (or wireless)? About 99% of the time, when I use something like WICD, it's based on getting a wireless connection from the PC to the modem.

My guess, without further information, is that either:
- The network adaptor on the Linux machine has a different subnet to the Windows and modem, or there is some conflict there
- There is a DNS issue.

Have you tried a static IP address?

Maybe I've misunderstood something, or if you could provide some more information it would be appreciated.
