Wired Network - New User (Dual boot w/ W7)

Postby MarkNibert on Wed Dec 29, 2010 3:08 pm

I have installed Linux Mint. I got it to load up and everything was working the first couple days until i had to restart the system. It is dual booted w/ windows 7. When I boot in to Linux Mint it does not connect to the wired network. Without doing anything, I can restart in to windows and connect to the internet. I downloaded wicd (Found a web saying to use it) but I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong and why it wont connect to the internet. I am up for anything or any guides, tips etc on how to get it connected. I would make the switch 100% if I could get it to stay online after a reboot.

I am using a dell xps from a couple years back. It has an intel ethernet card in it (at work so dont have the exact model).

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

this might work -

right-click the Network icon from the panel, and click 'edit connections'
click on the 'Wired' tab if its not already on it, click on the network you want to connect automatically to (probaly will be called Auto eth0)
Click it then click the 'Edit button to the right of the it
Another window should popup, now tick the box that is to the right of the words 'Connect automatically'
Now click the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the window, enter your password if your asked for it
Close the network connections windows and then logout & log back in to see if it worked.

This is just a quick solution that i thought, jsut off the the top of my head, so might work, might not.
