Can not configure my port.... (Fixed but read anyway)

Ok here goes..
I have a fresh install of Mint12/32bit and I can get out as this is the confgured port!
I have two nic in this box..
1. 3Com nic -> works great currently running!!
2. VT6102 (Rine II) on the motherboard.. when I click on the little network jack at the top of the screen
the 3Com Nic is in Black and the Rine II is gray.. ( and you cant click on it)
When I go through Applications/System Settings/Network I see both cards.. the 3Com show all info(address, mask, etc) and a dark configure box... But when I click on the other wired network (rine II) all it shows is that its unpluged and will not let me configure it, and all it show me is the MAC address!

ALRIGHT!! I just pluged in a cable into the jack to a switch (that doent go anyware) and now its lets you configure it.....
Who in gods name designed this one! Please take him/her to the nearest town wall and shoot the SOB!.. (this took me a week to figure this out) I have been a Unix developer for 35 years and for the last 12 + years it has been working with Solaris on SPARCs!!
no mater what it should have let me configure it with the cable UNPLUGED! ie the nic would be down not up!

Enjoy this post!!!
