Hi all,

Is this project alive? I really really like the idea of a Linux Mint so light and useful.

Regards

Yes. That's why I'm asking for the health of the project.

Anyone?

I use the KDE version on most everything. Occasionally I play with the Gnome and XFCE releases.
Occasionally I run in to some one who has a very old, low powered PC, they can not afford a new one but need a new OS because the old windows install is buggy or so outdated that it is all but useless. Since most all older widows OSs are no longer supported and flash players etc are becoming harder to come by, small linux distros are needed more and more.
Many old PC could be saved from the trash heaps if there were a good distro that worked on most old hardware and was easy to install.
I found two very good, small distros. But each has problems about it that prevents me from using them the way I would like.
Slax, a very good small distro. KDE is the GUI, it has a lot on it and is fast and very polished. But it does not have an installer, package manager or FireFox. Three very important things for any one who may be considering trying it in place of windows.
Tiny Me, also a very good small distro. Not sure what the GUI is. May be XFCE or a cropped Gnome but it is very nice, has a package manger, so you can install FireFox (since it comes with Opera)
And it has an installer. My problem is. The installer looks at my HD and says there is no room to install and closes out.
Well thats fine, I want to install over the current install. I want to try Tiny Me on the drive but it is not set up to do a takeover install.
Mint Mini should be able to do all these things.

Find and set up all hardware.
Have a package manager so that if you need something it is easy to get.
Have FireFox. Next to Internet Explorer, Fire Fox is the next most used browser in the world. So provide the browser that people are likely to be comfortable with.
Have an installer that gives the experienced user some options, but one that also has the ability to do a HD takeover, formats the drive makes needed partitions and installs.
You know. Just like how all the other Mint releases work.

Have you tried antiX? http://antix.mepis.org/index.php/Main_Page

Yes, I do. I know Linux Mint is now a very popular distro. I'm reading a lot about it. And I'm using it, of course.

As another user said, a ldxe+openbox linux mint would be great: based in ubuntu, with the great mint tools, really fast, stable and a very cool mint look. And I can use it on old PCs ¿who can ask for more?

So...is anyone building it? (I think I'm a competent user, but not so competent to do it myself)
