Download link for Linux Mint 7 beta?

Postby ddavid123 on Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:07 pm

Ubuntu 9.04 is slated to be released in nine days, and I wondered if the Linux Mint 7 has been in the works yet? Linux Mint 7 will be based from Ubuntu 9,04 if I am not mistaken. I just suspected that the next version of Linux Mint Main must be already cooking. It is going to be released in May, so Linux Mint 7 must be in late Alpha or early beta stage now, right?

If so, is there a download link for the alpha/beta version to be tested before release? I just love to test new software!

Mint 7 is in the works, so to speak but we test internally before anything is released to the public.

Clem only releases RCs to the public, so you don't have to deal with any computer murdering bugs. Isn't he kind?

Will there be an upgrade for Felicia or earlier versions to Gloria? I am downloading now, and will run it in VirtualBox! Since the problems Ubuntu had with a bad driver in the development of 8.10, I have stopped testing on naked hardware. Thanks Clem for your hard work!

The Distrowatch ISO link points to Felicia, not to Gloria.

I'm going to wait until official release, since I want to see the feature list before trying it out.

ddavid123: as always a fresh install is recommended, but yes. I believe clem plans to continue releasing upgrade packs as long as people use them. Note that it will likely only be released for the previous version (felicia) if you insist on upgrading from before that, you should upgrade one release at a time, e.g. through felicia. Of course this is only my best estimate, so details could change.

Old Marcus: the first draft of the release notes is up: http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_gloria.php

I had a spare IDE hard drive so I slipped it into my desktop.

Just downloaded, burned an ISO and installed Mint 7. Very nice. Cable connect and wireless work very well on my desktop.
My Logitech Quick Cam Express is recognized. I am going to like this new version.
USB thumbdrive seen.
External Firewire drive seen
HP all in one printer seen.
Canon Lide 20 scanner seen.
Digital camera media reader seen.
I was able to view a commercial DVD movie though the volume is quite low. That is something I have noticed at times with Mint. No big deal.
Hope to see the finished version real soon. Nice work Mint.

Felicia is my first version of Linux Mint so, How is the upgrade to Gloria? In ubuntu it's by means of "aptitude dist-upgrade". Is the same way for Mint?

Thanks.

nope, that won't work for mint. As always, upgrading is not recommended, you should do a fresh install. An upgrade pack was made available for elyssa to felicia, it is likely that an upgrade pack will also be created to upgrade felicia to gloria. This will not be a perfect upgrade, you'll get something that is very like gloria, but not quite.

This is a quite uncomfortable, I mean, in each fresh install I need to remember each package installed, each configuration (themes, conky, etc). There is a easy way to do that?

Thanks.

I'm trying out Gloria from the live CD and so far I like it. There are some great improvements here. :) Thank you for the download link.
Be kind- edit your post topics to show they are solved and thank the people who helped. :)
