How To: Modify Mint Boot to leave Network (eth0) OFFLINE ???

Mint 8 (Helena) Gnome LiveCD running from locked SD card

I am preparing to build a customized version of Linux Mint LiveCD, and one of my preferences is to have the system boot up with the Network Disconnected (OFFLINE). I have done a bit of research and found that I can connect and disconnect the eth0 interface using the terminal command line with the following:
Code: Select all
Connect:
 sudo -i
 ifconfig eth0 up

Disconnect:
 sudo -i
 ifconfig eth0 down

I would like to modify the system boot sequence to install the Network, but to leave it disconnected, but I have not been able to pin that down yet. I would be sincerely appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction, either with a link to a tutorial to the startup process that loads and starts the Network, or identify the file that I need to change to accomplish my goal.

Thank you for any and all comments, suggestions, and assistance.
Blessings in abundance, all the best, & ENJOY!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Not an answer to your question, but that version of Linux Mint has been obsolete for over a year. Are you sure you want to use this?

Why does everybody give me such a hard time for using a system that 1) is a LiveCD system that works GREAT on my older hardware, 2) has an <Alt><PrintScreen> function that WORKS, 3) is very compact, and 4) that I like and have become reasonably proficient with.

Yes, I really like Mint 8, and I really like Mint 10 for watching and working with DVDs. I would use Mint 10 for everything, except the <Alt><PrintScreen> function has been retaken by the developers. Don't worry about SECURITY ... I only run it as a LiveCD (ROM) system. When I do, there is NO hard drive in the system, hence, NO viruses.

Now, can someone please help this (relatively) NEWBIE figure out how to modify the Boot Sequence to end up with eth0 Disconnected?

I really would appreciate the assistance. Thank you for any and all comments, suggestions, and assistance.

Sorry, didn't mean to give you a hard time about using LM8. Just that, perhaps not many other users will still be using this (for security reasons if running as main system) and perhaps the steps are different with newer versions.

I did find 3 files in /etc/init ...
networking.conf
network-interface.conf
network-manager.conf

The file network-interface.conf has a line:
start on net-device-added
Does this have anything to do with my quest? I actually do NOT want to 'start' the network when the device is added.

I sure could use some hints on where to go with this! Thank you most sincerely for any comments, suggestions, and assistance.
