Is UFW Enabled By Default In Mint 12?

Postby DasFox on Thu May 10, 2012 7:44 pm

Hi,

Is UFW enabled to start by default in MInt 12, or if you want to use it, you need to start it as; sudo ufw enable?

Thanks...

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I don't know for sure, although I don't think so. But with this command you will be able to tell me:

Code: Select all
sudo ufw status

And btw unless you are a command line fan, the best way to monitor/run/amend the scope of ufw is to install its gui front end gufw - it is only a few kilobytes in size.

On my machine, at least, it's not. It wouldn't take much to auto-enable it with the Startup Applications thing.

I'm a Slacker, CLI all the way! LOL... :)

Gufw comes installed in 12 by default... ;)

Linux Mint I installed for my kid, sure I know ufw/gufw, but been ages since I played with it... When I start gufw the Status says off, but then once I click the icon it says on, but it only would say on after I enabled it from the cli as; sudo ufw enable, so that's why I'm asking.

Seems odd if you ask me that the only way to get the status to say on for gufw is to enable it from the cli...

To me the gui should say on once you run it, meaning clicked the icon in the menu and it pops open on the desktop and shows as the status on and then you click the lock to open it to make changes, edit it, not have it appear on. I don't know what someone was thinking when they designed this, but it's really stupid the thought process here... :(

It would be really stupid if it was designed like that, but it isn't, this is a fault in your computer. I have never switched ufw on from the cli only from the gui and once switched on by that means, it stays on all the time for me.

Don't ask me what the fault it though, I haven't got a clue.
