Replacing FreeNAS Server w/ Linux Mint: Suggested Packages?

Postby Minterbation on Sun May 20, 2012 8:42 am

I had a FreeNAS server set up using two 2TB drives in a RAID 1. I wasn't really using any of the features that FreeNAS offers other than the standard Windows network sharing and I need one of the 2TB drives for something else. So I've installed LM11 and am going to use that as my home file server. Are there any specific packages (not included in LM11) that I should install to get full use out of this setup as a file server?

FYI- I will be accessing it over LAN from Windows, Linux and OSX. It's only for media streaming and back up. I would like to have a few remote access options like RDP and SSH from within my home but no outside access. Also, if possible, printer sharing to the rest of the network would be good. And something to shut down the machine when the UPS battery is low. I don't need complete instructions on each one, just looking for recommendations on what packages to use since I'm use to doing all this from FreeNAS. THANKS!
I think I'm suppose to find something cool to write here but I don't feel like it.
