Soft Lockup of NetworkManager

Postby navaneeth on Mon May 21, 2012 2:02 pm

Hi,

I am getting this error while shutting down (wording not exact)
Soft-Lockup of CPU#0 for 26s [NetworkManager]

when I try to restart network manager as
Code: Select all
service network-manager restart

i get a failed message.

Code: Select all
uname -a

gives
Linux nkm-laptop 3.2.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Mar 4 22:48:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am new to mint. I have been using Fedora 16 for a few months. I just moved completely to mint a few days back. I think I had the same problem with Fedora. It also used to take a long time to stop network manager; but I never saw that error.

Thanks in advance

Edit:
I was able to successfully issue
Code: Select all
service network-manager force-restart
when network cable was connected (even though the applet said cable unplugged). After the restart of NetworkManager, cable was detected and there was no lockup of CPU. But I don't normally use a wired connection. I use a mobile broadband connection (USB device). When network cable is unplugged, I am not able to force-restart NetworkManager. Trying to do it stalls the whole system and I get some sort of wired message (actually a set of numbers) on my terminal and I have to force shut the system (power button). Also, not restarting network manager causes my system to go to soft-lock up when shutting down.
