[solved] Another SMB problem...

Post by snison »

there are hundreds of threads out there and I have come back to restoring my original smb.conf files and then enabled sharing on directories plus changed the workgroup name. I cannot get ay Linux machines to connect to each other or get either XP machine to connect to Linux. Your assistance is appreciated. not that I may not be back until 48 hours from now.

I've made a spreadsheet to make a little more sense of the situation:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

-ownerx64 13 MATE -> DM0

Re: Another SMB problem...

Post by altair4 »

It will take me a bit to through each one of these but every single one of your smb.conf files has the exact same error which seems statistically impossible but ...

Chane this:
encrypt passwords = No
to this
encrypt passwords = Yes

EDIT: While you're in there add a line under the workgroup line for each Linux machine:

Code: Select all

name resolve order = bcast host lmhosts wins
Then restart samba:

Code: Select all

sudo service smbd restart

Code: Select all

sudo service nmbd restart
EDIT2: What I can't quite ascertain is the names of all of these machines. You might want to go through the checklist to see why it matters:
