I have a new install of Mint 17, and tried everything I could find to figure out how to configure my Private Internet Access VPN service, all without success. Finally I contacted Customer Support online and the rep sent me this link: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/1940/pia-vpn-app-linux-beta
I tried it and it works splendidly! I highly recommend PIA and this procedure for anyone wanting a great VPN.

Actually, to setup mint via PPTP is rather easy if you follow their guide here:

I didn't even know they had made a client app for linux yet, but I'll probably hold off on using it till it's out of beta.
