Access network drive on Windows

Postby paddy on Thu Dec 18, 2008 11:37 am

I`m sure this has been answered but a search showed nothing relevant or useful. Maybe that's just my searching skills!

Anyway. Linux Mint running nicely on my laptop. 2 Desktop PCs one running XP, other running Home Server. All computers in the same workgroup.

In Mint double clicking on Network Servers brings up the window with all my pcs listed. Double clicking on, say, the server brings up an empty window. Yet doing the same within windows brings up the dozen folders I have shared on the server.

Yet if I type into that window smb://servername/documents

then it'll mount within Mint and I can access the folders/files within the documents folder.

Do I have to do this with all 12+ folders on the server? or am I missing something? I just want to see and be able to access all folders if I type in smb://servername/

Thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

1) Open a terminal and type:
Code: Select all
sudo aptitude install smb4k

1a) type password when asked.

2) Right-click MintMenu and click "Refresh Plugins"

3) Open MintMenu and click Accessories, find and click Smb4k

4) Locate your networked boxes

5) Click to mount :D

One further thing. I can view my windows shared folders just fine using Konqueror. Finds the server, can browse folders without a problem.

Many thanks - I second Paddy's sentiments - I had the same problem as Paddy in trying to access my Windows Home Server from Mint on my laptop and this has resolved the problem
