The difference between lan and wlan?

Post by ejazzkatt »

I just installed a new router. I am using it as a wireless router but I noticed on the back that there are 4 connections labeled lan and one labeled wlan. Could some please explain to me what is the difference please?

the Four Yellow ports labelled LAN are for connecting an Ethernet cable to a fixed PC

whereas the port labelled WAN is for a Modem, probably supplied by your ISP - to connect to that port.

some are a combined Router/Modem and that WAN port is surplus to requirements.
