Hi,
I am trying to help my friend whom I helped installing Linux Mint v.8 on his laptop.
He owns a mobile broandband device from the operator Telia. On the dongle has the following information:
Option iCon 505
My friend says that when he inserts the dongle in the USB port, nothing happens at all.
Anyone has some guideline on how I can help my buddy?
By the way, he is loving Linux Mint and is thankful for leaving the Windows environment.
Sincerely,
Andreas

Re: Mobile Broadband
Does this USB modem have a storage drive?
If it does you will need to activate a USB Mode Switcher, otherwise the computer will only recognize it as a USB storage device.
There are a couple of good tutorials on using the USB Mode Switch

I don't know if a USB storage device is the problem?
But many of the new USB Modems have one.
The "USB Mode Switch" is also, included in the Ubuntu/Mint Synaptic Manager / repositories. Just install it and use the various links to activate.
I use 2 separate USB Modems for my broadband connection; one is easily recognized and I am on-line in every Linux OS that uses Gnome Network Manager, in seconds..
And the other is a Cricket A600 USB Modem, that has to have the Mode Switcher to work in Linux.
