Would Install/MintUpdate ever work on http-only nework?

Postby Bit Mad on Wed Mar 14, 2012 2:00 pm

Hope it's a quick question, I've had no luck googling...

Restrictive work network - proxy that only allows http(s) - not even ftp.
I assume MintUpdate and the install process use something else, so I've got no chance?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think it uses http, as the software sources listed in /etc/apt/sources.list all start with http://

Yeah, thanks, looks that way on the face of it :D ... but can you guarantee that no other protocol/ports are used other than what's used for web browsing?
It would be nice to enter this into Google: mintupdate port
and get a definitive answer, but it doesn't look like anyone has ever written anything about it that looks like a link worth following

I'm having no luck trying to get things working with a proxy, an authenticated one to make things awkward, and http-only into the bargain... probably not 'an itch' that any programmer has wanted 'to scratch' yet.

It uses http. I think your issue now is how to configure a proxy.
