Cannot share wlan internet through ethernet

Post by Helios747 »

Hello,

For hours I've been attempting to share my laptop's wireless internet connection to my desktop connected through ethernet.

I've tried several methods to no avail.

KDE's NetworkManager GUI

commandline fu with IPTables and ip_forwarding

firestarter's internet connection sharing wizard

All of these I've tried with opendns and standard DNS

wlan (laptop) = dhcp

ethernet (laptop) = 192.168.1.3

ethernet (desktop, win7) = 192.168.1.2

The computers can see each other, but the desktop can't route through the laptop or ping the outside world.

I'm running Mint 12 KDE on the laptop.

HELP!

What did you set the gateway as for the desktop?
I have a similar setup, but it is different. I have a bridged connection using windows 7 to mint 12 box. The gateway for my linux box {no wireless only wired} is set to my router and not the box it is getting internet from. I think before I set up the gateway it would contact the other machine, but not go out to the internet.

Just a suggestion......

Maybe try setting the desktops gateway to the laptops gateway. That is what I had to do, but my config is a little different.
