Mate 13 : trouble installing inside win7

Postby proton.9 on Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:33 am

hey there!
im linux newbie but i have used ubuntu 10.10 for a while so im not a total noob :D
i'm having trouble installing LM13mate64bit inside win7. phase1 goes fine but in phase2 after copying all the files it just stops there (it kinda freezes. the pointer just rotates. i hope you know what i'm trying to say?!)
i tried again after removing ubiquity slideshow manager but no joy.
i cant install it discretely as my whole drive is dynamic.
been trying to figure a way out for like 10 hours now.

just for extra info
1)my hdd is healthy
2)tried DVD, usb and virtual drive for mint4win installation
3)my rig, i3 540, 2gig ddr3 and 320 gb hitachi hdd

Hey,

I'm having the exact same issue.

I had linux mint 9 running, but decided it was time to update to 13.

Mine does the same(rotating ball).

PC Specs:

Asus p5k-Se
intel q600
nvidia 8800gt
6gb Ram

Anyone have any insight, i'm going to try installing in compatibility mode(if that's possible) tonight. Also going to try from a usb stick.

Two things:

1. Mint4win works using these 32-bit ISOs

2. I used to install grub to MBR and it works.

well im haveing a problem getting the Mint4win.exe to even run in windows 7 64bit it just starts to load but then nothing but it will in stall in boot in to the live disk but not in wi8ndows and it is a hasel ive even teryed to remake the iso and that did not work so i dont know what i was doing wrong other than mounting the iso with demontools and that did not work ether then i burnd the dvd but still the only way it would install is off the live dvd i think there is a problem with the exe file on the iso

Do you mean SFS partitioning ? if yes this can cause problems, better converting it to normal partitioning.

I've tried Linux Mint 13, and I've tried Ubuntu 12.04 both off Live CD's

The Live CD's work fine, yet once "Copying Files" starts and i click "Continue" The cursor turns into a spinning wheel and I don't move forward(left it on for over 4hrs at one point).

I tried a Live USB install of Ubuntu and the same result.

My setup contains 3 HDs.
-a 300GB with Win7
- a 750GB for storage
-a 200gb(ide, others are sata) that i'm attempting to install Linux Mint fully on.

Is there anyway i can produce a log when this happens for others to look at.

Did you try formatting the usb with fat32 before making it bootable?
