Made a big mess but don't know how

Postby JEstrela on Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:28 pm

I cannot update my Mint or any of the programs. Tryed some sugested manual tricks but the problem remains. It's abou the header (or lack of it) on my Mint4win installation. Here is the report:

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty_restricted_binary-i386_Packages
E: A lista de pacotes ou o ficheiro de estado não puderam ser analisados ou abertos.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I'm a big noob and don't make any idea of what is (or should be) my "header".

I've mint installed in a 10Gb file in a WinXP Pro machine (Portuguese PT-PT).

Can you help me?

Thank's in advance!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

This is the problem
Encountered a section with no Package: header
Has to with the lists on your computer
This should do the trick
Code: Select all
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf

followed by apt update
Image
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thank you very much!

It did work! Now my MintUpdate is working again.

This is what is good with Linux people. Allways helping each other. Not like that Redmond guys. They ask you first 20 questions like "is your software legal", "did you pay for it" or "do the following next 354 steps is the exact order..."

(BTW: sorry for my lousy English, I'm a portuguese guy who reads well English but writes very bad)
