from what i understand fluxbox-mint aint under heavy development any more? Would a better option be to install a stock-mint (with gnome) and add fluxbox as a window-manager. (on the other hand the fluxbox-edition comes with lots of "tools"/"tweaks" however it is called. I really do like it).

That is what I have done and it works just fine. The extra fluxbox applications for tweaking are not really worth the effort IMHO. It is much easier and more powerful to just learn how to edit the config files by hand in ~/.fluxbox
