Hi stressonthesky,

Take a look at the following page and you'll see what you can and can't use in Wordpress. (NB in case anyone gets confused, wordpress.com is different from wordpress.org. I'm talking about wordpress.com, where they host the blog for you).

http://support.wordpress.com/code/

I think the things you're talking about are great ideas, but Wordpress(.com) does have a huge following and I'd hate to see their users locked out.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I agree with john that we should have some physical advertisements in the form or t-shirts and such. I know theres alot of Die Hard Linux fans out there that love to show off their geeky-ness. I personally would love to buy a Linux Mint T-shirt and support the project. I may not be a bad way of bringing in some funds as well.

Another Idea I had was some sort of flash video of mint and its features, like many of the flash adds we see everywhere, and of course it would like back to the site.

I love the idea with the 'Taste mint' button.
Most windows users don't know about live CDs and how easy it is to try linux.
This buttons invite you to try it.
Really professional work.

Old banner GreenMossMintLogoWork6.JPG was Deleted from this post & updated at link.

Here is another banner from one of my wallpapers, I tried to keep it simple, just another Idea. I admit I think I am better at photography than I am at graphics. Comments are welcome.

Regarding text, I'm unfortunately too busy to try to write anything from scratch; but I would be more than happy to proofread/edit any text other people write, if you'd like. I do quite a bit of proofreading and editing for a living.

I think it is vitally important to ensure that the promotional text on the Web site is grammatically correct and easy to read. Novell's Web site is rife with typos in its promotional materials for OpenSUSE, and it, quite frankly, makes it very difficult to take their "we can topple Windows" stance seriously when their text is so poorly written.

EDIT - I forgot to mention that I would be proofreading/editing English text.

Also - if any help is needed on the Web site, I'd be more than happy to help with that, too.

Mesanna, Thanks for the link, I must admit I've always installed my cms' myself, not used self-hosted services before and I had no idea quite how limited you were using wordpress.com. You can't even upload or edit your theme; that sucks!

Anyway, as I said in my previous post there are ways to do this without using json or javascript, it just limits things. A little php and gd are all that's required for simple dynamic badges/image widgets. Some experimenting this weekend I think.

By the way, reverend nerd, I really like your button. Simple and very elegant. Nice work. In that last image my only problem is with the text; it's not quite right with the softness of the logo around it. Do you know what I mean? Apart from that tiny niggle I like it a lot.

Hey everyone,

I had an idea for a t-shirt and a coffee mug, but I don't have a site or a ftp to drop the images for you to download.. Can somebody host them for me? they are small, don't worry:P (PM me)

I could try also to make a wallpaper, but I think we have plenty of awesome Mint wallpapers, so I will try to do different things:)

Generated button:
The first quick go

Okay, this took me about 30 minutes to cobble together so it's by no means perfect yet, but as a proof of concept, and perhaps a springboard for more ideas I think it could go somewhere. More info is on its blog post:

What do you think?

Sure, but there's also a lot of free community making websites, where you can make your own community.

One of the most known is Ning: http://www.ning.com/ . You can check the example community at http://myubuntu.ning.com/ or http://geeks.pirillo.com/ or http://foresightlinux.ning.com/.

These are very good looking banners for sigs and things. Also would present a unified theme with Clem and other mods.
