Individual file download progress bars are not colored in on mintUpdate. They're just white, instead of having blue fill showing on the progress side/half/whatever. Sorry if this should go somewhere else, I don't care about this and am just tryin' to help out the distro., is there a bug report collection area for the BETA's?

    hi there,
i don't know if there's anything you can do about it, but i'll try
i have msi l720 laptop with rt61 wireless card, out of box my wifi couldn't connect WPA network
i found out, that after installing linux-backports-modules it worked
i was just wondering if there's anything to do with it so it can work out of box
    thx

It appears, from surfing ubuntuforums, that part of the rt61 problem may be that the chipset doesn't properly identify itself. Use lspci or lsusb as appropriate and see what it says for your rt61. It will probably say something like "Network controller: RaLink: Unknown device 0302". I don't know how you can expect a default hardware installer script to know what to do with hardware that doesn't properly identify itself.

Here's a related ubuntu thread. Your rt61 appears to be a known issue with the rt61:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=132980

From the end of that thread it appears that the rt61, in some cases, works just fine on fresh install but if you read carefully the people who say "everything works fine" are using WEP not WPA. Which is your problem.

well, I just booted up with livecd to check whether you're right.. I found out that my controller was identified correctly, it says Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 rev B 802.11g
so i assume i can expect a default hardware script to know what to do, but it doesn't do it.
I don't know what exactly is installed by installing the package linux-backports-modules, but isn't it possible to get that driver from it a put it to system by default?
with that package, my wifi works flawlessly, it would be nice, if it worked out of box
I tried rt61 drivers from serialmonkey, but they didn't work, only things that helped was installing this backports package and I found it out by accident (luckily)

If the device is identifying itself properly, then it may be that MintWiFi isn't packaged with the driver you need. There can be many reasons for this. The backports package, in general, is a way to allow "older" base systems to use features or software intended for "newer" base systems. In this case, the backport may be necessary because of dependancy issues or kernel version. Mint (and Ubuntu) do not use, across the board, the bleeding edge versions of all software. I really don't know why the driver you need is in backports instead of the core distro, but what usually seems to happen is that stuff from backports eventually rolls up into the core distro over time.

it would be nice if that would be part of the core someday..
another curious thing is that in ubuntu 7.10 it worked out of box without any problem and without any need of installing some backports, but with 8.04 they screwed something up with that driver, or maybe it's because newer version of kernel.. i don't know.. i was little bit disappointed when i found out my wireless is not working, but at least there is a way how to make it work .. but in my opinion it could be easier to find out that installing the package linux-backports-modules can help with the wireless (maybe put it in some FAQ or something like that), i don't think i'm the only one with this issue

I'm sure you're not the only one with the problem. Hardy messed a lot of people up, when Gutsy was working fine. Sounds like they had a good old-fashioned regression. Mint's close tie with Ubuntu is probably why this problem exists in Mint also. It is also possible that this apparant regression was intentionally created due to some other problem not understood by either of us that is solved in this way. Sort of a "lesser of two evils" sort of thing. Regress rt61 support, fix something else more critical, and then roll up rt61 support with the 8.04.1 point upgrade. Its always easier and more tempting to blame incompetence for what may have been done intentionally.

Also, the upgrades on GDM don't fix the known GDM issues (network manager error messages on shutdown, long first time launch, weird theme selection). As always, I would recommend everybody to stay away from package upgrades unless they're given a level 1 or 2.

This problem with Gnome actually delayed me today and although I've got an ISO ready which I'm happy with it looks like we might be releasing on Monday. Exploder is busy at the moment and I won't be working on Mint this Saturday...

FF3 RC2 won't make it in final. It will come as a level 2 upgrade, when ready.

One of the major bug fix in Elyssa final will be the fact that when Flash crashes, Firefox won't. By simply reloading the page, Flash will work again. We're still looking at FF3 RC1 and Flash 10 beta, but wrapped within nspluginwrapper.

    I installed a fresh install an i only mark 1 and 2
Now all work fine. Is it safe only mark 1 and 2? or must i also mark 3 for safety?

Running the software, which geneally seems ok, however Evolution 2.22.2 which is the version currently running, doesn't have a complete set of fields for setting up access to an Exchange Server. I am allowed to enter the Exchange username, ut there are no fields for Server name etc or to authenticate the USername against the server.

In the german localization it says "Es sindN empfohlene Updates verfügbar". (N being the number of Updates currently available). Notice: There's one space missing between "sind" and the number.

    You can correct this here

I corrected the "Bug", and it should be ready to be included as an update:

I've just read of the release of the "Google Gadgets for Linux".
I know it might be too late for additions, but could it be possible (if it's not there yet) to add it to Elyssa?
If not, will at least be added to the repositories?
    Thanx

Okay i have tried 4 different web browsers on Elyssa 048 and found a bug. For some reason they like to close on their own. Tried Firefox 2 & 3, Seamonkey, and Opera. Every browser likes to close randomly. Youtube or other video sources seems to be the biggest cause. Hope this will be fixed in the final version of elyssa.

What these appear to have in common is Flash. Are all four browsers using the same Flash plugin? What Flash plugins are they using? Personally, I'd be quicker to blame Flash than to blame Mint, and I don't see how Clem can possibly be responsible for Flash being buggy.

This is probably due to Flash 10.

Flash 10 makes FF3 crash immediatly. Opera seems to handle it better.

Can't seem to get my sound working. I'm trying to use the digital out from my on-board sound chip. In previous versions of Mint (Cassandra, Celena, Daryna) I would just switch to the Realtek ALC650F mixer and enable the digital device (check the box and turn the volume up) then switch back to the Alsa mixer.

This seems to have no effect in Elyssa. I have been messing with the various mixers (Alsa, Pulse, etc.) but I just can't seem to make it work. I did a fresh install on an unused partition and did all the updates shown in Mintupdate. :(

    Hardware:
    Shuttle SB75G2
    Intel 875/ICH5 motherboard
    Realtek ALC650 on-board sound

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks, Tim

won't start on my Acer 5050 Laptop, no matter how many command line parameters i set...
I think it was a bad decision to base Mint 5 off of Hardy as this so called LTS Release is downright crap... the Kernel can't find my friggin Processor and locks up while trying to find SATA Devices THAT ARE NOT EVEN THERE.
All i'm getting to see is the Load-Bar that instantly freezes the moment it shows up on screen... the CD i burnt with the Release on it has been shattered at the nearest wall... can't see a better use anymore for ANYTHING that is being based off of Hardy or uses the latest Kernel.
