setting up xbox 360 wireless controller?

Hi all, I'm new to Linux and loving the minimalist nature of LXDE. What I need to know is if I can use an xbox 360 controller wirelessly and if so how do I go about configuring this. I have the controller and I also purchased a usb dongle thing that is supposed to let me sync up to the controller. But I'm assuming I'm going to need some sort of driver or to install a package or something.

Can this be done and if so, how? Bare in mind I am pretty green to Linux so you may need to word any responses accordingly
