What does install in compatability mode mean

When I install LM LXDE 12, it lists regular and compatability mode. What is this compatability mode? Thanks.

To make it more compatible with 'exotic' (or just old) hardware. Last time I looked it used the following boot 'cheat' codes - xforcevesa, nomodeset, b43-blacklist=yes, noapic, noacpi, nosplash, irqpoll.

How old is old? I notice it installs either way.

Who knows?
If it won't work the normal way then you try the other way, that is all there is to it.
