(Solved) Changing Wallpaper in LXDE 9 RC

Postby Dave68 on Tue Jun 29, 2010 11:11 am

This is probably a very Stupid Question if ever there was one, but here goes nothing.

I recently completed 2 Installs of Isadora LXDE RC. (When is this going LTS?) I would like to change the Wallpaper, but I am new to LXDE and can't seem to find the option.

In other areas of this forum (LXDE), I see people talking about OpenBox. I know it's in the menu, but I haven't even looked at it to see what it does, and the fact that I am currently at work doesn't help. (Slow Day at work. I wish I could be home figuring out Isadora LXDE from the "Hands-On Approach".) I guess I'm a Tinker at heart

I'll do some searching, but any points in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

hello, I am a newbie myself, but I think I can handle this one. To change the wallpaper, simply right click the mouse button anywhere on the desktop. A menu will open, the bottom entry being "Desktop preferences". Click on this. Now you are presented with a box with two tabs, the first one is "Appearance". In that tab, you will see under "Background" the title Wallpaper. At the end of this line is a file icon, click on it. Direct this to the folder having your picture, select the one you want. Then click open. Also, in this dialog box, you will note that below "Wallpaper" the next line allows you to change the desktop font/size. Happy computing, have fun personalizing your Mint!

Thanks,

I'll give this a try when I get home tonight. I've already found a couple of things that will help in getting me lined out. I think I've figured out how to fix the Clock to normal (12 Hour) time. I don't mind, but the kids aren't familiar with it.

Then I'll have a go at the Wallpaper thing.

Thanks Again,
Dave

Thanks for the help. I knew it was a dumb question, but I appreciate the info.

Everything is up like I wanted it.

Dumb? Stupid? No way, my friend. EVERYONE struggles to get up to speed with a new distro, thats part of the fun. I've been on other forums that castrate newbies for asking questions, thats why I am using this distro and participating in this forum. Good people here. As far as the clock settings go. I prefer this: %A %e %B %Y %I:%M:%S. Try it and see if you like it. This setting gives me the day of the week first, followed by the day of the month, month of the year, year, and full time in 12 hour format. Have fun with Mint LXDE.

on the subject of this, a couple of times i thought i was losing my mind

originally i'd changed the desktop as described in this thread, but then sometimes, like now, for instance, when i right click on the desktop i get a different menu come up which i think is related to openbox

terminal emulator
web browser
desktop
ob conf
reconfigure
restart
exit

which, i don't really know what this is, what it does, why it's coming up and how to get the normal menu back!! when i restart i get the normal menu back

any ideas?

Press the Restart button among the menu and do your stuff like normal; eventually the wallpaper will go back to normal :D
