Charset issues after a fresh install

Postby fbobraga on Sat Jul 31, 2010 10:50 pm

After a fresh install of Mint 9 LXDE, setup for pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese), the text in some places are not displaying correctly.

For example: in the PcMan, in the left panel (above the bookmarks), "Área de Trabalho" ("Desktop", in pt_BR) is displayed whit a strange character in place of "Á"... but in the left part of the same window, the folder with the same name is displayed correctly.

It's a known bug?
I can fix it? How?

* edit: typo corretion

The same behavior occurs with Lubuntu. But in a "normal"/Gnome install of Lucid, adding the "lxde" package and selecting it on logon, the problem don't occurs (see the screenshot attached).

Any ideas?

I've noted that Mint 9 LXDE (and Lubuntu) uses the 0.9.5 version of PcManFM (that has the issue), and Lucid uses the 0.5.2 version... so I've instaled the pcmanfm package from repo (transaction that removed the pcmanfm2 package, of 0.9.5) and the issue has gone... after that, i can't find the pcmanfm2 package anymore, in synaptic...

now I can't login (in LXDE) anymore (I'm typing this from a Ubuntu install that I have in the same box)

edit:
situation back to the same from first post with:
Code: Select all
# the "lubuntu-desktop/ppa" repo not existed here, so was added
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa

sudo apt-get update

# this depends on (and auto-installs) the package "pcmanfm2"
sudo apt-get install mint-lxde-default-settings

the 0.9.7 version of 'pcmanfm2' package exists here: https://launchpad.net/~lxde/+archive/ppa

the issue is gone (in my Lubuntu install) with:
Code: Select all
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:lxde/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

* in Mint 9 LXDE, it will problably cause various problems, due to de customizations (in Mint)

the 'pcmanfm2' package was updated in the ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa (2 days ago, but only now I'm posting it :P). Now, just it solves the issue:
Code: Select all
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

(now the only issue left is the "lubuntu-desktop/ppa" repo not existing by default, so it must be added: it is did by the first line in above code)
