I just installed LMDE on my notebook which was running Mint 9.
After everything was up and running, I tried copying files from my external back on to my laptop. It didn't go so well. The external began to beep and make strange sounds and the light started to flicker. I then got an Input/Output error on the screen (it said just that) and files stopped copying. I tried again, but the external again began to beep but the external froze totally.
I became paranoid of losing stuff so I backed up a few important files on the Mac. What's causing this issue on LMDE?
External harddrive issues... hoping to get this fixed ASAP!

What file system is used on the exernal hd?
