Now that I've been a decently satisfied user of LXDE on top of an LMDE (XFCE-version) install on my netbook for a couple of months I have to say that I rather see someone working on a mintified LMDE-variant of LXDE than an Ubuntu based one.

When/if that happens? Dunno, but I would be one of the first in the line to install it...

It's funny, you like LXDE on Debian and I like it on Ubuntu/Mint:

But I would not mind seeing a Mint Debian spin of LXDE. My only concern would be that I could not tweak it as well as an Ubuntu version.

Just yesterday I installed Mint 12 on 256MB of RAM toshiba and then installed LXDE on top because I didn't want to wait for the Mint 12 LXDE release. Today the Mint 12 LXDE iso is in testing...

Ohh... I guess that kind of settles the Debian/Ubuntu-question.

I'm happy for you who want an Ubuntu-based Mint LXDE, but personally I think I like the semi-rolling/crawling/whatever way of getting updates in LMDE better...
That's actually what made me make the move from Windows 7 to Linux a bit over a year ago - not having to - ever - reinstall again (unless I mess something up)

You can install Mint XFCE, then "sudo apt-get install lxde", use the theme from this new Mint 12 LXDE and make your own Mint LXDE.

PS--just for the heck of it I installed LXDE onto Mint Debian. I was surprised to see it runs much cooler on my computer compared to the Mint 12 install. About the only thing I'm missing is my weather app, other than that I think LXDE is lighter and certainly cooler on top of LXDE.

EDIT1: zram is working by default on the live CD if you have 512MB of RAM or less but not after install!
EDIT3: zram size is 50% main RAM.
EDIT2: Already about 150MB of updates!
