start menu and taskbar problems

I'm running mint 12 LXDE for two days now and so far I had to restart 3 times because the startmenu/taskbar got screwed up.
The last time the transmission application was under the menu and show desktop button. Both buttons did not works anymore.
I've also seen programs disappear from the taskbar but they were still running. Any ideas how to fix this will be much appreciated.

Use synaptic to remove and then reinstall lxpanel.
