Desktops

I'm learning Linux and have barely scratched the surface. I see instructions referring to various desktops, Gnome, KDE etc. I'm using the LXDE, are there procedures specific to LXDE I need to know?
Mint 12 LXDE on crap HP box.

There is a world of information at http://www.lxde.org/ Their forum is one of the best sources of help available to an LXDE user. Good Luck
