[solved] help - how can i disable window switch

Postby loganj on Fri Dec 20, 2013 3:47 pm

Hi,

I'm using petra version of mint and it seems that with this new release (and probably from cinnamon 2.0) there is a new function to middle mouse button.
it keeps switching windows when i go to the edge of the screen...actually is more like sending the current window in background.
its very annoying when i browse the web since ive made a habbit to move the mouse on the edge of the screen and use middle button to scroll the page. why? simple...too many ads on most of the page and sometimes its hard to find a place with no links to click on.
so the new function is extremly annoying for me. and to be honest i can't understand why its even there.

Disable wrap at screen edges, should be under your system settings

--Gnome 2x setups for settings, Mint mate/cinnamon: derivations of Gnome2x, so settings are either exactly the same or similar

go to "system settings"
then "Window Tiling and Edge Flip"
then uncheck "Enable Edge Flip"

add [solved] in the title in your post if this solves your problem.

i have no idea what that option is supposed to do but it's definitely not the one i'm looking for since it's already unchecked.

edit: ok i think i found out what this option is doing ...
if i'm right it's switching the workspace/desktops/whatever the name is
my problem is that i don't use multiple desktops
just the main one
oh and sorry for saying "the edge of the screen". it never occur to me to try it on windows that are not maximized. it seems the problem is when you click on edge of the window.

i think i get your problem now.
when you are in the edge of a window if you click your middle mouse button then window switches and the previous window goes to background.

if that's the problem, try this:

goto system settings
then windows
then look into the second line which says "Action on title bar middle-click"
set it to "none".
your problem will be solved.

the default was "lower" for me. you can set any other options if you like. but in that case remember that it is not only for title bar action , whatever you set it will be set for the window edge too, though it says "Action on title bar".

you can see an edit option on the right down corner on your first message (which was posted at first with the title) in your own post. it is not there if you are not the author (other's post).
click edit and you can change everything.
