Or maybe I should say why cut files don't get cut.
When I cut a file and paste to a different folder, I found out that many times the file is still there only hidden.
I don't need duplicate files of course, but it also bugs my eBook reader because it still lists the files that I have moved to my "read" folder.

I see where I can stop Gedit from saving a backup.
Any reason I wouldn't want to do this?

Well, if you edit a system file, and something goes borko, you will want that backup file so you can restore it and get things back the way they were.
