Unable to fill in password field (Mint 13)

Hello- I am using Maya 64 bit Cinnamon, and have recently started to encounter a somewhat disturbing quirk. When the session times out and I go to log in again, it is impossible to enter my password in the Password field. Nothing I seem to do short of a total shut down, and reboot appears to help at all. Even stranger, this does not happen all the time, but about every 4th time the screen locks, I run into the password issue once again.
Any ideas would be deeply appreciated.
