I need help with the linux mint 13 update manager 404 error

Early today I was in the middle of installing updates for my packages and then out of know where this message pops up. As long as these error messages pop up I will not be able to install updates for my packages.

I have removed canonical partners package but that did not get rid of the error messages, I even tried to switch ubuntu servers but that did not work either. I wan't to get rid of these error messages ASAP and contacting canonical will not help because they take to long to respond.

Provided the reported problem was not merely temporary, but persistent, please, post the content of the following files: /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list. One of these files will hold an invalid entry.

On this Mint 13 system the lists look like this:

This entry is a comment only, so irrelevant.
On this machine, running

Thanks for the hint. Yet, as there may be a syntactical error in the sources list files, it will be wiser to inspect the files directly.

With respect to this thread: we are still waiting for the complete list of configured repositories, got by inxi -r or by some other command, aren't we.

Same problem as in another thread: you're getting the error because it says 'maya' in your sources.list where it should be 'precise'. How do I know this? Well, I pasted the links you provided, changed maya to precise in the URL and it worked. If you know how to edit this yourself, do it (as karlchen already suggested). If not, post your sources.list here so we can help you

That's a good one. - I admit having missed the string "maya" in the thread starter's links.
Correct. Only Linux Mint repositories will know "maya". Ubuntu calls it "precise".

Very useful thread, which has just got me out of a mess after installing Mint 13 KDE. Why does the sources list go wrong, though? In my case, I got notification of a single update after installation - to update manager itself. I ran update manager and refreshed before applying the update, and got no 404s at all. As soon as I'd updated the updater, I expected a tropical downpour of updates, as always happens with a new release. Instead I got the tick, alternating with the message that update manager sould not refresh its sources - and loads of 404s when I ran it. Neither I nor the other people with the problem are deliberatly messing up our source lists to test Karl, so presumably the fault originally lies in the update to update manager, which has written in faulty source lists. This really needs fixing by someone at Mint, as avoiding the sort of terminal work we've had to do is precisely why we chose Mint in the first place.
